Common Portfolio and Comp Card Mistakes

Over-Retouching

Heavily retouched images that don’t match a model’s actual current appearance create a mismatch when a client meets the model in person — this damages trust and can cost future bookings even when the original images looked appealing.

Too Much Sameness

A portfolio full of very similar poses, expressions, or angles fails to demonstrate the range clients and agencies actually want to see — variety, within a coherent sense of the model’s type, matters more than volume.

Ignoring Print Quality

As covered earlier in this course, low resolution or poor paper stock on a printed comp card undermines even strong photography — a common, avoidable mistake that costs more in missed impressions than it saves in printing expense.

Failing to Update Materials

Continuing to use outdated photos, measurements, or contact information long after they’ve changed is one of the most common and easily avoided mistakes a model can make in maintaining professional materials.
